Hypopituitarism
SYMPTOMS. Children will show signs of growth retardation. They will have
normal body proportions but small in size. Adults may show signs of loss of
weight, poor appetite, intolerance to cold, lack of menstruation, absent or
sparse underarm or public hair, infertility and easily fatigued.
CAUSES. Hormone deficiency of the pituitary gland that may result from brain
growths of various kinds, a brain artery ballooning, shock or hemorrhage
after childbirth, fungus or tuberculosis infections that reach the pituitary
TREATMENT. Medication, replacement of lacking hormones. Possible surgery.
